Spending New Year's in Dubai?!

Hello everyone! As it gets closer to my adventure to Africa, I wanted to give you an update! I received my flight itinerary today (yay!) and it is becoming more and more real. I am so grateful for your support and love throughout the process. Over the past month and a half, I have not had to worry about fundraising because I'm already fully funded! Such an answered prayer! My team and I will be flying out on December 30. We will have a 15 hour flight to Dubai. We will be landing in Dubai on December 31. We will have an overnight layover, and then we will arrive in Kenya at 10:35am on New Year's Day! I am beyond excited!! Several of you all have asked if you can donate items for my trip. This is definitely an option, but due to my abundance of support, I am already able to buy lots of extra items to take on this trip. I was sitting in class tonight at Lindenwood and I heard a sound out in the hallway. My mind immediately jumped to panic mode and I began to think about what would happen if a gunman came into our building or our room. Would I duck? Would I run to the corner? Lock the door? There was a day that I never had to think about these things. I never once questioned whether I would be safe in school or ask myself what I would do if a gunman came into my classroom. Columbine happened when I was 8 years old, so I remember hearing about it but not really letting it sink in. The years following Columbine, I felt like I started hearing more and more about school shootings. The first school shooting that I really understood what was going on was when I was 15...Virginia Tech. After that we had Sandy Hook, Arapahoe, Umpqua Community College.
