There is power in the name of Jesus to break every chain.

One of my favorite songs by Jesus Culture is called "Break Every Chain."
The song is simple. The main line sings, "There is power in the name of Jesus to break every chain...break every chain...break every chain."

Psalm 107:10-16 says, "Some sat in darkness and the deepest gloom, prisoners suffering in iron chains, for they had rebelled against the words of God and despised the counsel of the Most High. So he subjected them to bitter labor; they stumbled, and there was no one to help. Then they cried to the Lord in their trouble, and He saved them from their distress. He brought them out of darkness and the deepest gloom and broke away their chains. Let them give thanks to the Lord for his unfailing love and his wonderful deeds for men, for he breaks down gates of bronze and cuts through bars of iron."

These verses give an absolutely beautiful picture of what God can do in the lives of every person.
Every. Person.

"Some sat in darkness and the deepest gloom, prisoners suffering in iron chains, for they had rebelled against the words of God and despised the counsel of the Most High."
As humans, we often put ourselves in slavery.
We put ourselves in compromising situations.
We put ourselves in sin.
We put ourselves in chains.
Every time we turn to an addiction.
Every time we turn to a sin.
Every time we turn to something before Christ.
Every time we choose our own or someone else's counsel over God's.
Every time we rebel.
Every time we choose sin over obedience to Christ...we put ourselves in slavery.

"So He subjected them to bitter labor; they stumbled and there was no one to help."
If we have chosen sin over the Lord, then we will stumble.
God will make it uncomfortable.
Sin always has a cost.
Sin hurts. Sin destroys. Sin has a price.
If we choose disobedience over obedience---there will be consequences.
No one on earth will be able to help us out of these chains---they don't have the keys.
No one on earth will be able to say enough words to free you.
No one on earth will be able to keep you from stumbling.

"Then they cried to the Lord in their trouble, and He saved them from their distress."
We are never too far gone.
No one is every past the point of saving.
There is always hope.
No matter how long we have been living in sin.
No matter how long we have been rebelling from God.
No matter how long we have been disobedient.
No matter how long we have been addicted.
We can cry to the Lord.
We must cry out to the Lord! He is our only hope.
Self-help books can't heal.
People can't break the chains.
Music doesn't help.
Things of this world can't satisfy.

Never believe the lie that you are too far gone. Never believe the lie that you can't run into God's arms.
Even in your mess, Christ wants you to run to Him.
You don't have to clean yourself up before you call out to the Lord.
In your mess, in your sin, in your addiction---that's when God wants to hear you call out to Him.

"He brought them out of darkness and the deepest gloom and broke away their chains."
Mark Driscoll said, "Jesus died so you can kill sin before it kills you." The truth is...sin leads to death. Sin can't be taken lightly. But the beautiful truth is that Jesus died, so that we could be free from sin. We can live in victory over sin. We can live in freedom. What good news!
When we call out to God, He rescues us. He hears our cries. He brings us up from the pit.
He redeems us. He frees us. He turns our gloom into joy. He breaks away our chains.
He breaks every chain.
The chains of rebellion.
The chains of depression.
The chains of pornography.
The chains of self-hatred.
The chains of eating disorders.
The chains of homosexuality.
The chains of alcoholism.
The chains of smoking.
The chains of drugs.
The chains of people pleasing.
The chains of cutting.
The chains of premarital sex.
The chains of cheating.
The chains of pain.
The chains of despair.
The chains of divorce.
The chains of anxiety.
The chains of over-eating.
The chains of perfectionism.
The chains of the past.
God can break every chain.
And He does.

"Let them give thanks to the Lord for his unfailing love and his wonderful deeds for men, for he breaks down gates of bronze and cuts through bars of iron."
And what do we do when God breaks out chains? When He frees us?
We rejoice and give thanks!
We tell others of what He's done in our lives.
We tell others of His love.
We tell others of His mercy.
We tell others of His grace.
We don't shut up about how good the Lord has been to us!

I am so undeserving of all the blessings that God has put in my life.
I am someone that turned to the ways of this world, but Christ brought me into His kingdom.
I worshipped the desires of my flesh, but I am now consumed by the Spirit.
I lived in sin, but now I live in Christ.

There is power in the name of Jesus...to break every chain.
Break every chain.
Break every chain.

The Lord is willing to break away your chains...run into His arms and call upon Him tonight.

In His love,
Hayley
